The number one issue people contact me about is highways - and specifically potholes. So at the meeting of Surrey County Council yesterday I welcomed the focus that the leader of the council Cllr Tim Oliver is bringing to addressing the condition of Surreys roads.
But despite the council topping up the government contributions, there needs to be more recognition that Surrey's roads are second only to London's in terms of volume of traffic. It is vital that sufficient money be invested in roads carrying traffic travelling from London to the south coast and beyond.
Surrey is seen as an affluent county that receives less help under the current funding formula. But we need to seek more capital funding if we are to maintain economic competitiveness and provide the infrastructure needed to deliver housing targets for the county.
