I've just received the following from Network Rail -
"As you will be aware, on Sunday 3rd December, our engineers discovered structural defects on St Johns Footbridge that carries the public footpath over the railway in the Hook Heath area, near Woking. Following this on the 9th & 10th December, we carried out demolition work to remove the bridge entirely.
"Since then, engineers have been developing designs to replace the footbridge with a metallic bridge structure.
"We are committed to delivering this replacement within the next financial year (April 2024 – April 2025).
"Due to the bridge’s location on the South West Main Line, an exact date for the replacement has not been confirmed yet, as we are still currently planning when the appropriate access will be available to our engineers to access the railway, when no trains are running. As planning and designs continue, every effort will be made to ensure that the bridge is replaced as soon as possible.
"Whilst we appreciate that stakeholders and the local community will be frustrated that an exact date has not been confirmed as of yet for the bridge’s replacement, we will provide a further update in due course, with a timeframe of when we plan to do so.
"Once again, we’re really sorry for the inconvenience this bridge closure will cause and are very grateful for your patience and understanding."
So great news that a replacement is on its way and more details to follow as soon as the details are known.
