Speeding along roads in Hook Heath, Mayford and Sutton Green is getting worse. I'm constantly having this raised with me across the area, most recently in Saunders Lane. In the past, I have been a member of the Community Speed Watch initiative, where the local community monitors, with all equipment and training provided, the speeds along particular roads in partnership with Surrey Police.
I have already been trained in this, as has former councillor Simon Ashall but we haven't been able to hold any speed monitoring sessions due to a lack of take-up among other volunteers. I know that some residents are reluctant to commit because they see it as a soft option and a waste of time. The reality is that with money for highways schemes short and police time scarce, it represents one of the best ways of enforcing local speed restrictions.
So please, if you can give some time to this scheme, please get in touch with me at [email protected] or in the comments below.
