After he responded, to my call for funding ideas for my Surrey County Council Members' Allocation for community groups, it was great to meet Peter at The Lighthouse earlier today and to see lunch being served in a warm space for many residents of Woking who had turned up to the building looking for warmth, food and friendship.
Peter was very kind to show me around the entire operation, which includes a food bank, baby goods bank at The Jigsaw and also a hygiene bank (newly-opened). There are also facilities for getting clothes and a bright relaxation space for people to enjoy. The Cosy Cafe, which operates commercially as a fundraising venture, finishes off the wide variety of social and practical help available at the Lighthouse.
It is an organisation that has long been held in high regard by Woking Council for the work it does and the contribution it makes to the town and its people. I am delighted to be able to support it with my Surrey County Council Member's Allocation and to have had the opportunity to see the great work they are doing.
